 สาเหตุนี้เอง ที่ทำให้การผูกริบบิ้นสีเหลืองและเพลง tie a yellow ribbon ได้กลายเป็นสัญญลักษณ์ของการรอคอยการกลับมาของทหารที่ถูกส่งไปในสนามรบ ซึ่งในสมัยนั้น เป็นช่วงของสงครามเวียดนาม

ในปี 1981 เมื่อตัวประกันชาวอเมริกันจำนวน 52 คน ซึ่งถูกจับเป็นตัวประกันนานถึง 444 วันในอิหร่านได้กลับคืนสู่บ้านเกิดเมืองนอน คนอเมริกันก็ได้ใช้เพลงนี้ต้อนรับ รับขวัญ พวกเขาเหล่านั้น   ในช่วงสงครามอ่าวเปอร์เซีย ปี 1991 เพลงนี้ก็ได้กลับมาใช้อีก จนถึงปัจจุบัน ปี 2003 ยุคของผู้ก่อการร้าย ที่อเมริกากล่าวหาอิรัก บุกรุกอิรัก เพลงนี้ก็ได้กลับมาดังอีกครั้ง   มาร้องเพลงนี้กันดีกว่า
