From Kuantani to Kantang - Section 2 Trang was transferred from depending on Nakornsrithamarat to be directly depent on Bangkok. The boundary of Trang was fixed, the collecting tax was separated and nourishing trade of its own was intended to be a port independently. Praya Ratanasatii(Kosimkong Naranong) , a governor from Ranong Province was appointed to act in charge of Trang as governor. Unfortunately , Somdej Chaopraya Bormmahasrisuriyawong died before developing Trang successfully. Praya Ratanasatii encouraged growing plants. He introduced Chinese labourers to work in the sugar cane plantation. Sugar canes can be vital for manufacturing brown sugar in the factory to be shipped to Penang. There were three sailing ships approaching to laod things for trade at Khlong Toara( a canal). Nowadays, the trace of chimneys and the furnace to simmer sugar still reamins at Ban Jupa Tambon kantang Tai. The tools for squeezing sugar canes are now displayed at Phraya rasada Museum in kantang District. MOreover, tools like this have been found at Tambon lampura, showing that in those days there were quite a lot of sugar factories. Since Phrya Ratana Setti performed the duty of ruling two cities, it was an obstacle to develop Trang. Therefore, he resigned from the post . Trang has been under the western gorvernor until 1988. Pra Trangkapoomapiban (Eim), decendant of ChaoPraya Nakorn became a Trang ruler. In this period, people submitted a petition to King Rama V , informing about bad treatment from the governor and asking for the new one. In the year 1990 His majesty the King visited the South. When He reached Trang, he saw ruins. Then, He appointed Pra Asadongkotiraksa(Korsim Be naranong), a governor of Kra at that time to become the new ruler under the new title Prayarasadanupraditmahitsarapakdee. Praya rasada solved the problem of deteriorating in Trang. He had a monopoly tax stargegy which is called The Whole City System. This way it was convenient to collect tax and he could spend this money to nurture the city. he solved the problem of cultprits by setting up a troop of poilce in Trang, organising patrol ships to take care of six ports:Kantang, Sikao, Kalasae, Tapaya, Yongstar, Koh Sukorn etc. he ordered the ships to be registered and got the number plates. This helped reduce the problems of robbery. he also developed Trang by setting up the policy for Trang to become an agricultural city, encouraging farmers to grow different kinds of plants rather than pepper. Forexample, coconuts, nuts, spice, coffee etc. he ordered people to grow plants for cooking and feed animals for food. It was said that each house had to grow 5 of each type of plants with fruits to be eaten and cooked. Moreover, they needed to feed 5 hens for eggs. Later on, he established a market to exchange commodities among city people. He persuaded the foreign traders to buy things and to establish commercial firms in kantang District. People can tarde with Penang and malysia. After he worked for a while, he considered Kuantanee not suitable for expansion to be a trade port with foreign countries. Consequently, he constructed the new city in Kantang and asked for permisssion to move there. In 1993 official buildings were constructe3d and the policy for promoting agricultural occupations still continued. The most important task is to promote Para Rubber Trees. people experimentally started to do the rubber plantation. This economic plant is the foundation of every prosperity in Trang. Next issue the interesting story about Trang will be presented.
