SSA offers to host a Shan State assembly

Following its bi-annual meeting, 2-3 June, at its main base Loi Taileng on the Maehongson-Shan State border, the Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS, the political arm of the anti-junta Shan State Army (SSA), has called for a state-wide meeting to form a state-based council. Foreign Media ‘More Destructive than Nargis’: Junta

Writing for the Burmese regime’s two most popular daily newspapers The New Light of Myanmar and Myanma Alin on Sunday, pro-junta writer Ngar Min Swe claimed foreign news organizations and radio stations—including Burmese media abroad—are “more destructive than Nargis.” The article continued: “Some foreign broadcasting stations are making attempts to undermine national unity under the pretext of Narg....

Cyclone Victims Migrating to Thailand

Many Delta Schools Open, but Where are the Children?

Burma’s school year has started, but in the cyclone-devastated Irrawaddy delta the timetable and curriculum are as provisional as the livelihoods of countless parents, many of whom can’t afford to send their children to class.Although all schools are open in Laputta town, which caught the full force of the cyclone, education is far from the minds of people who are trying to put their shattered lives ....
